Membership Approved for Internet Society (ISOC)- yay!

4 days into the New Year I received confirmation that my membership to the Internet Society (ISOC) was approved! I'm so excited, considering I didn't really see myself as a tech buff, but emerging technologies and digitalisation of business fascinates me so this opportunity to follow a new path has come right on time!

What is ISOC ? According to their website (2020), "We are a global nonprofit organization empowering people to keep the Internet a force for good: open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy. We believe everyone should be able to benefit from an open and trusted Internet..."

"...What do we do?... Build community networks to connect the unconnected. The Internet has expanded around the world faster than any previous technology. And yet, nearly half of the world’s population still doesn’t have Internet connectivity. These unconnected communities and individuals — who live in rural, remote and urban communities — are on every continent. Each day without Internet connectivity is a day of lost opportunity..."

So, in joining the community networking section, there's a space where you present yourself and get to know other people. For that, they ask you to share a bio. What do you think of mine? In terms of tone, I wanted it to be professional, without being too stuffy. So it read,

"As a Digital Communications for Development (DC4D) Practitioner and EcoFeminist, with over 7 years international and UN experience (2013-2020) I am competent in the areas of: Environmental Safeguard Management Systems; Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction decision-making; Gender Mainstreaming and Human Rights; Donor Relations and Resource Mobilisation.

Having started as a method-acting performing artist, I transitioned to development work and (digital) advocacy for Gender Equality, Climate Action as well as Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Proficient in 4 languages- ChiShona, English, Spanish and French, I lived immersively in Cordóba, Argentina as a Rotary Exchange Student for 1 year (2005). When I'm not working, you can catch me diving into a book, doing Zumba or writing on my blog.

Additional knowledge areas include: project implementation; financial and procurement management; project monitoring and reporting; stakeholder management, coordination and liaising; and, knowledge management and innovation."
